Dr. Andrew Sahawneh
Dr. Andrew Sahawneh is a native of Mobile, Alabama. He received his bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama. He went on to complete two years of post-graduate courses and research as part of a master’s degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at the University of South Alabama.
After completing externships at the Birmingham VA Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama, and at Vision America, a large, multi-specialty referral center in Mobile, Dr. Sahawneh graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Optometry in 2018. During his time at UAB, he was involved in a number of volunteer efforts including several community outreach programs that provided comprehensive eye exams to low income families. While at UAB, Dr. Sahawneh met his wife, Dr. Hannah Sahawneh, who is also currently an associate optometric physician at Gulf Coast Vision Center.
More recently, Dr. Sahawneh completed an optometric residency with speciality training in ocular disease from the Chinle Indian Health Service hospital in Chinle, Arizona (Navajo Reservation). His focus was comprehensive eye exams, including general vision care with glasses and contact lens fittings, but he developed a deep passion for the diagnosis, treatment, and management of a wide variety of ocular disease conditions including dry eye, glaucoma, and diabetic eye disease among many others.
He enjoys the local beaches as well as the incredible seafood our area has to offer.
