A native of South Carolina and graduate from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Optometry, Dr. Sharon Streeter is a compassionate, highly skilled professional and a powerful force in Gulf Coast Vision Center’s commitment to elevating eye health in the community it serves.
Throughout her education at UAB, Dr. Streeter contributed efforts to help children in need as a member of Student Volunteers in Optometric Services to Humanity. She actively participated in mission trips to underserved populations within the United States and Costa Rica providing eye care to those less fortunate. She also completed an externship at the Birmingham Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Her humanitarian efforts continue even today with contributions to organizations such as VisionQuest, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing eye examinations and eyewear to children in need, and the American Optometric Association’s InfantSEE program, which supplies free eye exams to infants younger than 12 months.
Dr. Streeter is an active member of the Lions Club working to “end preventable blindness” by helping those in need to get the eye care they deserve. She also serves as a trustee on the West Florida Optometric Association’s board.
Dr. Streeter demonstrates consideration throughout her life’s work as an optometrist. She provides eye examinations for corrective eyewear, evaluates eyes for health conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration, and presents appropriate treatment options. |
