Celebrating a Legacy: Transition to Gulf Coast Vision Center on Town Street

After nearly 70 years of dedicated service to the Pensacola community, the optometry practice at 2105 Town Street is entering a new phase. As of October 2024, we're excited to announce that Gulf Coast Vision Center will take over the reins of this historic practice, ensuring continued high-quality eye care for the local community.

This change marks an important moment in the history of a practice that has been a cornerstone of vision care since 1958. Founded by Dr. James H. Finch and Dr. F. Donald Colley, the legacy they've created will be honored and carried forward by the new ownership.

A Tribute to Dr. James H. Finch: A Legacy of Service

Dr. James H. Finch, O.D., P.A., was a man whose contributions to the Pensacola community extend far beyond the field of optometry. A World War II combat veteran who earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Dr. Finch moved to Pensacola in 1950 and soon became an integral part of the community. In addition to his distinguished military service, he was an active member of local organizations, including the First United Methodist Church of Pensacola and the West Pensacola Lions Club.

Dr. Finch earned his degree from Northern Illinois College of Optometry in 1950 and opened his practice soon after. His daughter, Dr. M. Elise Finch, joined him in 1978, continuing the family tradition of caring for the community. In 1989, Dr. Finch retired and sold the practice to Dr. Colley, leaving behind a strong foundation of compassionate care.

Continuing the Tradition: Dr. F. Donald Colley's Impact

In 1989, Dr. F. Donald Colley, O.D., P.A., took over the practice after having spent years building his own successful practice starting in 1967. A proud graduate of Florida State University and the Southern College of Optometry, Dr. Colley dedicated over five decades to the optometry profession. His service extended beyond patient care—he also volunteered at the Federal Prison Camp, providing eye care to incarcerated individuals, further solidifying his commitment to the community.

Known for his expertise, warmth, and dedication, Dr. Colley has been a pillar of the local optometric community. After more than 30 years of stewardship, Dr. Colley is now looking forward to a well-deserved retirement, spending time with family and enjoying the fruits of his many years of hard work.

Looking Forward: Gulf Coast Vision Center's Commitment

With the transition to Gulf Coast Vision Center, the practice is poised to continue its long-standing tradition of providing exceptional eye care to the community. Dr. Reynolds, the new owner of Gulf Coast Vision Center, expressed his excitement about the future:

“We are excited to honor the incredible history of this practice while looking forward to providing quality eye care solutions for our community.”

As we take on the responsibility of continuing Dr. Finch and Dr. Colley's legacy, we remain committed to offering the same high standards of care that have been a hallmark of this practice for decades.
